Help! I need to figure out how to part out/sell my e39.
My beloved 1997 528i e39 had a cylinder fail (number 4 has 0 psi compression) which is beyond my ability to repair. The mechanic quoted me an arm and a leg to repair the cylinder and even more to drop a "new" used engine in it ($3000 to repair $6000-$7000 for a new engine installed). Consequently, the cost to repair the engine seems to be more than the car is probably worth (has 185k miles).
I bought a new e39 this weekend (has sport mode which I LOVE) so I need to figure out what to do with the '97. It is a pretty clean car so I hate the idea of trashing it, but I am not sure how to sell it and donating it to charity only gives me ~ $300 write off...
I have never parted a car out and I am not sure I could disassemble all the pieces. I am thinking about putting an add on Craigslist for the car as a whole but I am not even sure how much to list it for. Does any one have any suggestions?
