HELP! car disabled - BMW Forum

symptoms

no power from key so fob not working

thought fob was broke but bmw deaer said if fob was broke dash lights would still come on but when i turn key i get nothing

battery has power

alarm goes off when i enter the car manually

windows go down when i turn key to the right so power getting to there

power getting from battery to engine checked with volt meter

please can anyone help?

Sounds like a main 40amp fuse needs wakening up! (A Guess)

I checked all the fuses but when you saying wakening up does this mean it looks ok but its not?

Well, it will be electrical if the Dash is out... Maybe something (a fuse or Module) needs unplugging and re-plugging, sometimes this works! It has for me in the past...

but what cofuses me is if it is a fuse or a module why would it disable the key fob

Dodgy Module will do that ! You may need to locate your General, Windows and maybe the Security Modules and either try replugging or testing.

What motor do you have?
Generally speaking, the crucial Modules are usually under a plastic cover behind a strut in the engine bay... Others can be found under either footwell inside the car!

Right, apparently the ignition barrel is a common fault (causing the dash not to activate/illuminate)... This is your first item to look at - Remove the trim and inspect the wiring... Does the dash occasionally light up if you wobble the key while turning it?

no mate no lights what so ever windows work when i turn key in the door and lights are going when the alarm goes off

1 - Does the alarm activate while you have the key in the door to unlock etc?
2 - Does the key NOT open the boot?

the fob doesnt work for anything when i open the door manually or the boot manually the alarm goes of when i open the door not when i turn the key or anyting
