Help.

im not a big poster but where better to get this info. i HAD a 97' 528i blk/blk on 18's with dsp audio, 6disc changer, heat seats, etc, etc, etc. the car had 140k miles but, for the most part was one of the best daily drivers i've owned until last week when a young lady rearended me at a light.
as i look around az,nv and ca i cant find a car with same options for what they want to settle for. yes im hot about the money but, what are you to do right. my main issue is finding a 5 i like with the same options. so, question 1. how does the 540 compare to the 528? #2. what about the 525?
i have looked at a few 740's and im not sure i would be as happy as the 528.

For that question, the easiest thing is too look at the Wikipedia.com on BMW 5 series.

to be realistic, depending on the system, you may gain some features. as far as what, i don't honestly know, because i am not an audio guy.

If it's done properly, you shouldn't loose any functions of the stock radio. As for the 528 vs 525 ect. It's got mostly to do with engine sizes. Look it up my friend!

congrats.

ONe thing to watch out for is the upper engine gaskets. I believe you might have to change them around 80-90 thousand miles as they start to leak. Did the last owner have this done?

Otherwise they are amazing cars. Good luck.

well, the list is long on this car but i've already begun the build. stripped the tint and went 5% on all side and rear glass and 50% on the windshield. fixed the loose woodgrain trim on the inside before i remove and paint it gloss black. have a cool looking set of 18" multi spoke wheels coming but up in the air as to the size of tire i will run. also on the fence about doing lowering springs. with the huge sidewall of 16" wheels and stock springs this has a plush yet sporty ride.
any suggestions and or experiences would be nice to hear.

Watch out for the rad blowing it's plastic tank...... and once the water level drops your water temp gauge will sit bang in the middle of the gauge whilst the engine is cooking itself...... part from that they are awesome motors.

I run 235/45 17 on the fronts 255/40 17 on the rear.... + M sport susp package. ride still smooth enough to cover 2000km in one hop.... i'd be wary of 18 inch rims and say 30 profile tyres cause you'll feel all the bumps in the road......

for what it's worth....

thanks harry. i was aware of the rad exploding since my last e39 did that exact thing. i already have that on the list although all hoses, tstat hsg and pump look new.
as for tires i used a tire calculator and was going to go 255-45-18 to keep same os diameter as stock. basicly going +2 on the wheel/tires but thanks for the info!
