Hello. I need some help

Hi to all members. I am new to this forum so bear with me on this post. It is my first.
I own two BMW's a Z3 and a 523i. I have owned six previous models without any problems.......until I purchased the 523I several months ago.

The car a 1997 model with 145k on the clock. Performance was quite dull and a mechanic informed me that the cat converter was blocked. This was changed and the performance improved. I then needed an MOT test and the vehicle failed an emmision test. The mechanic told me that he thought the timing chain had jumped a few teeth and that the engine needed replacing. I decided at this point to take the car to a BMW specialist for a second opinion. This guy put the computer on it and said that the engine was fine but that some sensors needed replacing. He changed the camshaft position sensor and two ex probe sensors and charged me 700. When I picked up the car it ran superb. Response was there, power was there, everything great............for about fifty miles!!!!

I had to break heavy as a car pulled out in front of me. After that as I pulled away there was a massive screech from the engine as I got up to 15mph and it felt like the engine was braking and there was no power at all. I nursed the car about thirty yards to the nearest rodside pull in at which point the engine was vibrating and misfiring badly. I got a rescue vehicle to bring my car home.

Needless to say the BMW specialist is denying that this has got anything to do with his repair.

Can anyone give me any ideas as to what has happened here?
