Heater putting out very little heat ???

1995 5251 heater is producing heat but not very hot. Even the engine temp needle is not idicating the engine is very hot. I'm not familiar with the engine enough to know if there is simply a therostat that can be replaced in the radiator hose (like many Amer. cars), or is it something more involved. Its getting cold in Pittsburgh and we need some more heat. Any suggestions?

Has the heater core and lines to it been checked for clogs?

No. Any idea how to do that? A little heat is getting through but not alot. Is there an easily accessable thermostat? Is the heater core the radiator?

The heater core is like a mini radiator located in the back of the engine bay behind the firewall. Any more detail I'm not sure of.

I think that points to the thermostat...... how low is it like barely warm at all 1/8, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2?
