Hello! First thread! I am buying a '99 528i. One of the things I've always admired about the 5 series lately are the 2001 - current headlights they have. The light ring around the HID beam. The car I'm purchasing doesn't exactly have that. It's the older style.

My question is this:

Can I just buy a 2001 headlamp kit for Driver and Passenger and just apply them as is or do I have to do some custom application? Also, are there other companies that make quality headlights that just aren't OEM BMW parts with the BMW price tag on them?

I'm wondering this because I'd like to update the appearance of the car as well as get MUCH better lighting for driving.

Anything helps! thanks!

You can email me at RCi25@aol.com OR you can simply reply. I'll check back!

Thanks to all!

There are a lot of options for upgrading your lights to angel-eyes. Fist of all, do you have xenon or halogen? This makes a big difference. Whichever you have, you can easily swap out for a newer model. If you have xenon, the angel-eye upgrade is a snap. If you have halogen you have a few options. Firstly, if you want to keep halogen, you can get halogen-angel eyes that look great! Secondly, you can upgrade to xenon angel-eyes, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg.

When it comes to brands, i would stick ONLY with HELLA who is the OEM provider for BMW. They are a little more $$$, but definitely worth it!

If you come along some that you are interested in, let me know and I'll check them out.

Best of luck!

Veilsiide.... If you want to upgrade to that style, checkout BAVAUTO. I bought and installed the set myself. It'll cost you $1500!!! I'm very happy with the look!

Just be aware that a warning will appear on your display board to check the headlights. This is because the new lamps use less power than the old ones. You only get this warning everytime to start or shut off the engine. Bavauto has a couple of additional parts that you can buy if you do not want to see it.... I did not feel like spending an extra $150...

I appreciate all the info, I'll make sure to look that stuff up right away. The car i'm interested in does not have HID's, I'm almost certain of that. I'll take a look and get back to you fellas. Thank you for your time!!!!
