Just to warn you, I bought some lights from the US, and they were set up for US roads, they did not have the adjuster to switch from right to left etc. So I had to send them back at great expense, so be careful.
Hi,
thanks for your message! What do you mean by "the adjuster from right to left"?used I don't understand the problem you had.. can you be a little more specific? Thanks

I need to replace one of my headlights on my 525i here in Italy. Are the bulbs and sockets on the USDM BMW the same as the European version?
I found a good deal on EBAY but just want to make sure that I don't have any surprises when I receive the headlight!
he is talking about the cut off shield I believe.
Its what lets light pass to parts of the road / signs, etc without bothering oncoming traffic. This is ESPECIALLY important with xenon lights.
Are you looking for a whole headlight assembly or just a new bulb? if your looking for the whole assembly, make sure it has the cutoff shield for your car, it's dependant on RHD or LHD.
I cant tell you much about the socket type, though. Sorry.

On the European models there is a slide switch which allows you to set your headlights to point to the left or to the right - this allows continental travel without having to put those ugly lens adjusters on - If I were to cross the channel into france I would pop the bonnet and adjust the lights to point to the right so as not to dazzle oncoming traffic. As all american territories drive on the right there is no need for this option on their vehicles.
Also the lens patternand the lens make up (toughened glass/plastic etc.) MIGHT be different on the US lights as our laws on headlights are different.
