I havent told everyone this story but to make a long story short, the guy who sold the car from me 'modified' the radiator so he wouldnt have to buy another one and it failed on me once while i was on a trip in NJ. I needed a new radiator ($500)
I just got the car back from the mechanic because of a hell of an oil leak. The oil pan gasket is leaking all over and the oil sensor was 'jimmy rigged.' The dude i baught this from decided to silicone the sensor instead of replacing the seal. I need a new gasket and sensor. $250 after labor.
He also said that he took a look at the transmission since i told him it takes about 5 seconds to kick in once i put it in reverse. He said that the fluid was a pure black color apposed to the reddish color it usually is. and he also said the filter needs replaced for sure. Before i baught this car the dealer said he would flush the tranny and change the filter before handing it over to me. He lied. $130 for the tranny to be flushed and refilled and the filter to be changed.
So this is $880 that I should have to spend because the dealer was a douchebag.
dubumb.... how many miles are on the car??? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you've got high miles on that car (90k+) and the trans fluid hasn't been changed... now that you have changed it, I would be VERY wary of the trans going out on you. It's something to consider because it is highly possible.. especially since you were already having issues with the delay into reverse. Not saying that it will happen but you should be prepared. I hate to hear that you had to deal with that douchebag.... that's the problem with any dealer these days.

tranny does that on mine (although not 5 seconds, maybe 1.5 sec) when i start it in the morning and it is really cold. fluid is as red as transmission fluid gets.
funny thing, i bought the car for 3500 and in the past two years whoever owned it invested at least 2 times the amount stated above it (not tuning but just parts that needed to be replaced/fixed)...
definatly a high mile car... 141000. I do not know if it has ever been changed, but i doubt it since it is black. The man said that it would be a good idea to change it... Maybe i can get a garuntee?
All i know is if the tranny goes out im pushing the car off a cliff in neutral :P
most of the time people sell their cars particularly if it has got high miles on it to avoid the cost of replacing the service parts and buying a newer car seems to be more practical and more often than not we on the lower end of the buying market fall victims to these situation...
