Well my 1990 E34 535i has had about everything fixed on it and is all new but the Engine and Transmission!! So I figured they were going out soon but I didnt want it to be last night haha!! Anyways near my friends house there is this curving road and its fun to charge around it at like 65 and such, I always do every time I go to his house, anyways I drop him off around 1:30am and then I turn to drive away and the car doesnt want to do more then idle crawl! So I thought it was in neutral but no, the RPMS were going and the car was in Drive but not going anywhere!! So first off I think, F*CK its the Tranny so I call AAA and they come and it still wont move at all!! Except in Reverse, which works fine for some reason! So We tow it to a Gas Station cuz it might just be low on Tranny fluid, so we put a bottle in then tow it back to my house and leave it to try in the morning, well today it woudlnt even idle crawl and I havent tried Reverse yet but it starts fine and all and gets gas so thast why I presume its the Tranny... anyhelp would be appreciated!! Also prices on new, used and/or re-built tranny's!! Cuz if its too much to fix it will be kicking it in the Driveway for along time... Thanks in advance

Glad you are back online!

It is most likely a tranny. A few years back we had a Taurus (only had it for about a month) and it did the same thing... we ended up trading it in and loosing 3 grand.

phhh...we had two Tauruses and a Continental (which at the time was a glorified Taurus platform) and they ALL had transmission problems. In fact, the Continental had 5 transmissions in just a little over two years. That was our last Ford. My Uncle had problems with the tranny in his Explorer too, and he doesn't buy Fords anymore either. I have this awesome license plate that has a Ford logo with a red circle-slash through it and says, "Friends don't let friends drive Fords."

Anyway, Maz, yup, sounds like the tranny. When our second Taurus tranny went out it did the same thing---except it decided to go out as as were turning left across two lanes of traffic and a semi was coming at us. THAT sucked. On top of that we were in Tennessee, a good 10 hours from home in Indiana. You know what you may want to do...I'd get an estimate on what it would cost to put a manual tranny in that sucker. It's worth looking into!

Seriously, a Manual Tranny would be pretty cool in that, I really miss driving a Manual!! I will ask my mechanic tomorrow when I take it in to him!! I sure hope it doesnt cost an arm and a leg!!
