My transmission for my Mercedes is being rebuilt. It calls for Dexron III. I was thinking of using Amsoil and I was wondering what your thoughts were or what experiences you may have had. Otherwise, what do you feel is the very best product available?

Not good...not bad either
Are we talking Mercedes or BMW here..not that it matters but this is a direct quote from the link u provided:
"AMSOIL ATF has an expected fluid life of three times the automatic transmission manufacturer's recommendations. Drain intervals may be extended indefinitely when fluid analysis is used"
While this may be true for some cars, on many BMW transmissions, fluid is LIFE TIME deal. How can the above qoute be true? 3 life times? used used
Sorry, guys. I have more than one car and one f them happens to be a Mercedes. I figured maybe someone may have some experience or knowledge of ATF fluids. I don't believe any ATF fluid is good for lifetime, no matter what they say.
Apology is not needed..we here to help as much as we can..but I believe we went through this topic of life time issue many times. To sum it up:
A. Mercedes has 100K ATF intervals for the S500 (I say S500 because of a friend has it done at the dealer) for about $200
B. BMW has it also for 100K but the dealer told me it is OPTIONAL for $450.
C. When I tried to purchase the life time fluid from the dealer..he refused to sell it saying this is for our service dep. USE only!
D. Finally I imported the same life-time stuff from BMW in Germany and had it changed....the only reason for this fluid change was when my car got flooded with water. Hope this clarify the issue
