Gearbox Problem - BMW Forum

hi guys.new to this forum and hope you can help.
i own a e39 535i auto step tronic 1998 uk model.
last month the car suddenly went into limp home mode showing trans fail safe program on dash.drove to local garage who told me that i would need new/recon box.purchased recon box had it installed and drove fine for 2minutes.same problem is still with the car,when i aproach junction and slow down the car suddenly jumps into limp mode.mechanic has no idea what is wrong.was theoriginal gearbox fine and is this fault electronic?...any suggestions would be very welcome as this is driving me up the walll...thanks

did you take it to a dealer and they said you needed a transmission? you might want to take it to either a dealer if you didn't already or atleast a diffrent shop more qualified to work on your car.

Go to a dealer and get the fault codes read there’re are lots of external fault that can cause this I very much doubt you needed a new box ZF are the best auto-box you can get and they don’t go wrong often and if they do get it rebuild by a good specialist
