Gearbox Noise - BMW Forum

Hi

i got a 525 manual. Recently i have noticed that there is a strange rattleing, clunking noise commin from the gearbox. It has now started to get alot worse. It started only in 5th but now it seems to do it in 1st 3rd and 5th for some reason. you can also feel vibrations throught the gear stick and hear it from outside and in. It only does it when in gear drivin at about 30mph+. Anyone got anyideas what it could be???

need help desperately.

how's the oil level of the gearbox???
Could be very very low on oil - bad news.

Are you feeling vibrations in the car itself, or just the shift lever?

Figured out the problem today. The metal collar round the outside of the coupling that joins the two drive sharfts had come off and was moving up and down the drive shaft knocking and banging everything. All sorted now though.
