gauge problems 89 E-34

My temperature gauge and gas gauge do not work. Flat line, zip, notta. Everything else seems to be working OK on the dash. Is this typical of capacitor problems on the board or do I have something loose?

Its kinda odd they both quit at the same time, but then again, I am not sure of how the cluster is wired on E34s. I suppose its possible that BOTH senders went bad at the same time, but not probable.
