Future Newbie - 93 525i Purchase

Greetings,

Always been a fan but never an owner. While searching for a sedan to carpool, I ran into what I consider a possible hidden treasure.

It's a 1993 one owner 525i with 157K miles sold by the owner. Asking price is $4K. All the pictures look very nice for a vehicle of it's age.

I will meet, test drive and purchase tomorrow. You guys are the experts...I'm sure your brains store books of common knowledge that is very foreign to me. So, aside from available service records and apperance, what should I be looking for mechanically? How much should I necgotiate the price without insulting the proud owner?

I've attached a first look pic. I'm very excited and hope it comes home with me tomorrow.

That's major money to be paying for a 525 with 157k miles!
May be in good shape but you will never get your money back!

I once had a 1992 E34 525ise and I loved it...
The only reason I sold her was the head gasket failed at 147k and didn't have the cash to fix it !!! My loss !!!
