Steve, you're a god damn genius!
It's a 1995 540i with a six speed transmission.

Great stuff.....I feel your joy!!! I have had mine for only 1 week now, and the wife and myself each complain when we dont get to drive our new-to-us 540 6sp to work....HAAAA
I cant completly explain what is going, but there is a connection to this car that I havent felt in my ACURA TL, or my older Nissan Max....I just love driving this 540. Now this is where it gets weird...I am now searching the used car market for a 330xi sedan or wagon, this would used all year round, the 540 will be going into storage as its never tasted salt/winter.....so I guess I am a complete convert, thats it, no more FWD and hopefully only BMW's....

I know the feeling boys - My beamer is only a baby compared to a 540 (she's a 2.5 ltr 523i) But still is as smooth as silk. I bought her about 4-5 mths back (not quite sure if 4 or 5 life goes too quick) and I can safely say I love every second I spend behind the wheel.
Yeah, the only thing I have to worry about is premium gas -- it's 2.50 a gallon in San Diego. Plus, I'm about to dump 400 dollars in a Type 2 Inspection. But, hey. It's worth it.
This 540 is incredible, especially considering it's almost 10 years old.

You complain too much, in the uk we pay £4.00 a gallon that's $7.17 compared to your $2.50 a gallon or £1.39!!! And you complain about 4-5 dollars a TANK extra for premium - I think I seriously need to consider moving to the US(for the petrol prices alone).
