I just recently bought a 2001 530 i, my fan won't turn off. I have disconnected the battery but I can't do that forever. Has anyone ever had this issue?
Just had the same problem with my 2002 525i. Very simple fix it would seem, but it cost about $300 or so with labor. I'm not sure what's involved with changing it yourself so I can't advise you on that. The part number for my car is 64116923204 and has a BMW Catalog price of $88.16 but I think the dealership charged me a hundred and something. If you can change it yourself, should be a relatively inexpensive fix.
You should check out this site for part numbers and diagrams. Just put in the "last 7" of your VIN and you can get all the part information for your car.
I have the same problem, My AUX fan stays on and its on full blast as soon as I plug it in with no intentions of slowing down or stopping even 45 min after the car has been shut off.
I can plug it in with the engine cold and the fan goes full speed.
The outside temp gauge reads -40Deg F ( sensor must be knocked of or something) that has nothing to do with it right?
Maybe its just me guys but hold on
dirty tool's question was WHICH FAN DO YOU MEAN??
AUXILIARY COOLING FAN FOR ENGINE at radiator?
OR
Interior heater/air conditioner fan (often called blower)
(this is the one with the "final stage resistor" problem/fix)
let make certain we are all on the same page
OP .. which fan please?
I have a similar problem with my 2001 530i. Mine is intermittent. I replaced the aux fan in July because it had a burned out motor. Now, about 50% of the time it continues to run after turning off the engine. It continues to run until I unplug it at the connector mounted to the shroud. Sometimes it will run on high speed immediately after I start the cold engine. Yesterday it did a very interesting thing. The car had been sitting for half the day in a parking lot. As I approached the car I hit to button on the key to unlock the door. As I pressed the button the lights blinked to little beep sounded and the fan started to run. What do you think about that? So how about some trouble shooting advice? I'm stumped.
