Exhaust smell

i noticed that sometimes strange smell comes out of the exhaust and there is no smoke.and its not oil burning smell

can anyone tell me if he had such situation????

Question

How i can chek my car's catalytic converter??
and when it needs change usually ???

my car has 67K km

Usually there is rattling noise inside them, loose pieces of junk/metal. They usually last a long time, I still have the original on my 97 540 with 82k miles.

They last longer than you think my neighbour has a 728i 1998 with 280,000miles on original cats.

Does it smell kinda "sweet"? If it does, then it's coolant....not good if that's the case. White smoke also suggests moisture (coolant) presence in combustion.

but if its the coolant,,, there must b a leak of water. is it true?
water level is steady for long time,i dont have problem with it

my car smells like it runs extra rich as well... I always though it was becuase my Cat wasn't existant.. are you throwing any check engine lights ?
