Engine ticking

Hey I have a 04 525. I'm having a problem with a ticking noise from my engine. It sounds like it can be the lifters, the engine sounds like a deisel. When I put the car in reverse I notice the sound reduces or go away for a short period of time before returning. Any sugestion on what the problem can be or a fix will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Last oil change was about 3 weeks ago. The ticking was there prior to the oil change. Use mobile 1 synthetic.
