Engine Replacement

My son ran my 95 525 hot, pulled the head and found out it was cracked, and rebuilt was almost as much as replacement engine. So I bought replacement engine and plan to keep old one and build it up later.

In the meantime, I have Bentley manual and I'm gearing up to pull engine. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks all!

not too hard to do if you've pulled engines before.

I would mark/identify all connections where they disconnect. that way, putting it all back(especially the vacuum lines) won't be puzzling

Have fun & Good Luck

With digital cameras everywhere and no cost to use, I would say take a thousand pictures, maybe even some video.
And think how much wiser your son is, great isn't it?
I am 530 shopping 01-02 and passing my 150k fine 99 323 to my freshman EXCUSE ME
SOPHOMORE son, I don't expect the car to really survive indefinately, just as long as he does.
The old subs died the first week. Yesterday I was in a guys garage picking up 4 sport springs I had paid him $60 for from e46 fanatics forum, and dam if he didn't hold something and ask me, how are the subs on your 99? sold for $40 with amp. Crazy
Anyway remember to replace everything u can afford that is hard to get to, like shifter bushings if manual, engine mounts etc
take the hood off completely, watch the paint be careful
good luck sorry for rambling,
tom

Did you compare the cost of an identical car, after parting out your now useless frame? It will be a win-all: You no longer have the headache of a broken car, and a bunch of people get some parts they desperately needed!

Thanks everyone! THis forum stuff is pretty cool! All your ideas I already started ... so I'm on the right track. Car is kind of ruff but I do like the engineering. I rebuilt front end, new shocks and lowered it a bit. I'll post pics later

I need to try this forum stuff with my 86 930.

Later!
