Engine Oil Questions E60

2006 BMW 525i here.

My questions are regarding the engine oil.

I have searched the Internet to find out what engine oil I should use in my car but keep getting different results:
0W 30, 0W 40, 5W 30, 10W 20, etc..
What is the best one for this car in terms of the viscocity?

Also, this car swallow a lot of oil?
I seem to be getting the add 1 liter warning every once in a while (Every 2 o 3 months) and I have checked and there is no leak so i'm wondering if this is normal in these cars or is something wrong

Top two are German Castrol 0w-30 (which is OEM) and Mobil 1 0w-40.

With Mobil the 40 wieght is preffered because its thinner and acts more like a 30 weight. German Castrol 0w-30 was what your car left the factory with. Make sure if you look for it you look for the one with the wieght in black lettering surrounded by red. On the back it should list the BMW LL-01 Specification. The other ones do not list the specification.

Also if your losing that much oil you may have a piston ring that is damaged or exessivly worn and oil is getting into the combustion chamber. Only a mechanic can tell for sure.
