Engine fail safe program 520i 1998

Dear guys please help me.
I live in tropical country & I own a e39 1998 520i.
Few time when I accelerated above 4000rpm the engine fail safe light came. When I went to the BMW maintenance center & when they hooked the computer up the same following message props up “ throttle body not functioning. But since the previous owner had also maintained this car through them ,they said that two years back(I have now owned for 1 year only) the same problem had come though they had replaced the throttle body etc. but they had found that the fan for the ECU was not working & as a result the ECU had got heated. But when the fan was replaced there was no problem. Since this has now again propped up they are telling that the ecu has to be replaced . Any comments on this.
P.S-no other error is shown

I would think it's possible the ECU was heat damaged. Maybe you can get a replacement on the condition that it solves the issue.
