I have a 2000 528 and this is the engine trouble code I keep getting. I have looked everywhere on the internet to find this particular code and can't come up with a thing. I thought these codes were universal. The "problem" is intermittent so I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. A couple of people have mentioned the gas cap might be the culprit. Any thoughts/knowledge about this sucker?
The manual doesn't show that code. Are you sure that's the
correct number? Anyway, here is a general table for P codes
1st digit
P= POWERTRAIN
B=BODY
C=CHASSIS
2nd digit
0= SAE
1= BMW
3rd digit
0= total system
1= air/fuel induction
2= fuel injection
3= ignition system or missfire
4= auxiliary emission control
5= vehicle speed & idle control
6= EMC inputs/outputs
7= transmission
4th-5th digit
individual circuits or components
This is the example shown on the manual:
P0306
P= POWERTRAIN PROBLEM
0= SAE sanctioned or generic
3= related to an ignition system misfire
06= misfire has been detected at cylinder 6
In my opinion, sisnce your code was not listed on the back of the manual, is either the wrong number or if you want my guess I would say is the "VEHICLE SPEED & IDLE CONTROL... AIR/FUEL INDUCTION...
Good luck and let me know if you have any other codes....
MARKR
Here are all the codes that are related to your problem. same problem in different area:
P2049 Reductant Injector Circuit High Bank 1 Unit 1
P2050 Reductant Injector Circuit / Open Bank 2 Unit 1 P2051 Reductant Injector Circuit Low Bank 2 Unit 1
P2052 Reductant Injector Circuit High Bank 2 Unit 1
P2053 Reductant Injector Circuit / Open Bank 1 Unit 2
I hope this will help you and the others

These codes come from a small and a personal data base bank on my computer which of some value to me especially when something goes wrong with my BMWs . I enjoy fixing it, learning more about it, and save the money. As usual I will be more than glad to share it with all the folks out there on the forum. Remember you folks did help me alot in solving my own "rough Idling problem" especially Dirty Tools, CosmosBlack.
I'll get back to you on your IM soon. Good luck

I did some research for you and came up with the following:
a reductant injection system for an internal combustion engine including a selective reduction system communicated with the internal combustion engine, a vehicle sensor communicated with the internal combustion engine, a controller, wherein the controller is communicated with the selective reduction system and the vehicle sensor and a reductant storage device communicated with the selective reduction system. In addition, a method for increasing NOx conversion efficiency in an internal combustion engine having a reductant injection system is provided, wherein the method includes obtaining a vehicle data signal responsive to the engine performance of the internal combustion engine, processing the vehicle data signal so as to determine a combustion characteristic of a combustion cylinder, determining an optimum reductant injection timing and introducing a predetermined amount of reductant into the combustion cylinder responsive to the optimum reductant injection timing. Furthermore, a medium encoded with a machine-readable computer program code for increasing NOx conversion efficiency in an internal combustion engine having a reductant injection system is provided, wherein the medium includes instructions for causing controller to implement the aforementioned method.
I hope this will give you an idea. Well not quite but a GENERAL COMPLICATED IDEA. Don't say it I know; I made it worse!!!
