I've just driven a '05 E60 with the sport package. I'm pretty impressed with the car. Although I still don't care for the style. It is very color dependent to look its best. A dark color for me works well. The interior is not up to usual BMW ergo's and it too looks best dark (black). Question I have is, I might order one of these cars but I want the M body package that is shown in the BMW ad in the latest issue of CAR magazine. The current front bumper is pretty lame. But the car shown in that ad looks mean.
Can I get the euro M body package through BMW individual?

I just picked up a 2005 545 six-speed in Munich back in early Otober and have been driving it here in the US for about a month. I had similar misgivings about the ergos but they now don't seem so important. Yes, iDrive is about as counter-intuitive as possible but, once you get familiar with it , it's not such a bother. Most of the items you need to set are one-time-only and the other functions can be controlled from the steering wheel buttons.
As for the looks, I've been getting lots of unsolicited compliments. Mine is in Olivene Green which everyone likes a lot. I was nervous about the color but the response from friends and total strangers has been overwhelmingly positive.
I got the Sports Package, HUD (I love that thing), NAV, PDC, CWP and SAT radio and am very pleased. Nothing has gone wrong.
True, you can get a whole lot better ergos on a Lexus or Acura but you can't get this sort of silky, smooth handling, transmission and power anywhere else.

David, you don't list your location, but the BMW Individual options are available only in Europe, so since you mention it, I assume that's where you are. You can get the M body package through BMW individual in Europe but as far as I know it is not yet available in the US.
