Question E60 Climate Control Issues

Hi everyone,

I have been dealing with an issue with the Dual Zone Climate Control in my recently purchased 2007 530Xi. When in Auto mode, the climate control does not appear to work in a manner that makes any sense to me. In fact, I suspect that the system is simply not working correctly. However, the onboard diagnostics state that everything is OK and the local techs say that this is the way that all 5-series cars work. They claim that 5-series cars always blow cold air at the chest, warm air at the feet, and expect it to "mix in the cabin". I find it difficult to believe that a car at this level would not be able to do something my Mom's $5k van can do with ease. Further, control from side to side is essentially not functional and the air flows into the rear are almost always cold only.

While on a long drive with a friend, we took a series of measurements on September 15, 2010 with an ambient temperature of 46F and overcast skies. We were driving at 70 miles per hour, and the readings were taken with a Black&Decker TLD100 Meter. There was a minimum of 5 minutes between adjusting settings and measuring temperature.

All readings in degrees Farenheit.

My apologies in advance for formating issues in the table below.

If anyone has experienced this themselves and could shed some light on whether this is a (known) fault or if it is expected behavior, I would certainly appreciate hearing about it.

Thank you in advance for your help.

David
