It should take a day or so at the dealrship, they need to progam the new software. Hopefully your car is produced between March and April , 04. if not you might not have the Bluetooth module in the car. They will tell you that they have to pull your telemetrics module out of the trunk to check it which will cost half an hour of labor to be sure.
Otherwise the updgrade of the software should be free. Don't let them tell you otherwise. It took me almost 6 months to get this done by asking a lot of questions. Everyone from BMW NA to the dealership here has not been helpful at first and finally I pounded on the salesman every 6 to 8 weeks to find me answer and he finally did.
