My E60 530i 2007 suffers from a clear vibration at idle speed that you can clearly feel when holding the steering wheel or the gearshift . The RPM needle is very stable without any fluctuation at idle at about 600 RPM, and as i slightly increase the RPM to 1000 RPM the vibration disappears . However, when settles down to 600RPM you feel the vibration again in the steering wheel.
Comments please if anyone has faced this problem and how was it cured ..
As the car is relatively new , I didnt consider this as it is more popular in much older cars . Anyway, will check this as well . Some have mentioned changing the spark plugs can solve this problem too . Will try this as well and see.
I'm driving a 2007 E660 and having the same steering wheel vibration when idle only at 830 rpm with or without A/C on. Any idle rpm of below or able 830rpm, the vibration will just goes away. Workshop did tried to tune the idle rpm down to 700rpm. But a soon as I start my car, the engine will automatically raised back to 830rpm and needle is stable at that rpm. The only time the idle speed would drop back to 700rpm is when I start my engine when outside temp is less than 25 degC. Somehow felt that it is temp related. But nobody seems to be ble to find the causw
I have changed all the spark plugs and injector coil,
Replaced the engine mount. And the steering wheel
Vibration is still there. The only time I would experience
A idle without the vibration is when I start the car when the
Outside temp is below 25 degC. Once the outside temp
Rises to 28 degC or higher, the idle vibration is back.
I strongly feels that it has something to do when
Tenperature
I also have a e60 that the wife drives and her car does the same thing I searched the froum I'm on bimmerfest and came across this a few years ago.
Service Bulletin 18 02 08
Customer may complain of a slight vibration and/or droning noise when the vehicle is idling in park, neutral, drive and reverse when engine is at operating temperature.
CAUSE
Insufficient vibration dampening of the exhaust system.
PROCEDURE
1.Verify the complaint. Vibration/droning is most prevalent when engine is at operating temperature.
2.Remove the lower bracket for the exhaust system. If droning/vibration is gone, proceed to step three. If vibration/droning still exists with the lower bracket removed; continue troubleshooting exhaust/driveline for other causes or conditions
3.Remove complete bracket assembly and replace it with the bracket (1) PN 18 20 7 521 346 using two new ASA bolts (PN 07 12 9 905 417. Tighten to 21Nm.
Install front pipe bracket (1) PN 18 20 7 521 347 with four rubber bushings (2) (PN 18 20 7 546 579) to the new 346 bracket with two ASA bolts (PN 07 12 9 904 559) and two nuts (PN 07 12 9 904 580). Tighten down to 21Nm
After performing this procedure the vehicle will exhibit the same amount of normal driveline vibration as a comparably equipped E60 with a M54 or N52 engine.
