E39s.... Where's the "THUD" ??

So I went out testing driving a couple E39 this AM. I've never experienced them before and left impressed!

However, when I got back in my E34 sherman tank and shut the door. I was met with my familiar..... "THUD !" as I closed the driver's door. At that moment, I knew exactly what was missing from the (2) E39s I drove today.

Is the metal in E39s that much thinner than that used in E34s or what ?

For those not familiar with E34s..... next time you get the opportunity.... Ask the owner if you can sit in it and close the door! You'll see exactly what I'm talking about.
