With equal driving skills, the 523i doesn't stand a chance. Even for the 528i, I would give the MB the edge. A more evenly matched race would be against a 530i, and I'd favor the bimmer in that case.

First nice to meet you, drz. Second, thank you for your valuable information. I just want to ask if the MB will still have the edge in tight turns vs 523i.
The 523i is lighter, and with the suspension in top condition, I imagine it will handle better than the benz. Go on the track and try it out. Then come back and tell us about it.

I know that BMW is N1 brand, and as I own a E39 model, namely 523i, I'd like drivers to share their experience with me. So please let's make an encounter between the E39s and W210s (I mean between all the models) and see how they stick up against each other in you opinions, dear members.
So, 520i vs e200, 528i vs e280, 535i vs e320, 540i vs e430 etc. Or 523i vs e280. Let's try various combinations.
Your opinion is very important to me.
I am an owner of MB, W211, E280-2007 & E39, 530-2002 at the same time. My E39 is approaching 350,000 KM but the W211 is around 70,000.
The Bimmer is heavier with better stability on the road than the Mercedes. Also the quality of the materials used in the bimmer is better though it is 5 years older. Power is almost the same in HP ... both of them are around 230HP.
