| E39 std Radio replacement to aftermarket Evening folks,
I have an E39 '96 and it currently has the standard tape stereo in place,
I am thinking of replacing this for my Sony head unit out my old motor (it's CD and iPod)
trouble is on the back of the BMW stereo is the iso plug, the aerial and another lead, what can be only described as looking like a mobile phone aerial extender lead socket.
What I want to know is about this lead, I guess it goes to the aerial booster in the back of the car, it powers it on & off when the radio is being used? If so, is this the equivalent of plugging it into my pre-amp blue cable on my stereo? I know this pre-amp cable used to switch on my amp & sub in my old car so I'm guessing this could be similar principle to this? Anyway if I take out the factory unit, replace it with my Sony can I wire the pre-amp blue lead to the aerial to power the aerial booster? Or is there an adapter to connect to the iso or am I screwed and have to lump the crappy tape unit? |
