E39 Sporadic Electrical Faults

Anyone have trouble with the following sporadic problems after having started the ignition?:

Some of the door or trunk ajar warnings on but doors/trunk are actually closed
All turn signal and 4-way hazard fllashing lights inoperative

Shut and re-start the ignition and above problems disappear??????

At other times ignition does does not work, - take out the key and try again -and all is well.

I'm thinking it's the ignition switch.

I think it's called the ignition control module.
Heard from my mechanic that it's a common fault that he's come across quite regularly. But I have not yet had this problem yet.
