I am trying to reset the service indicator lights on my 2002 E39. This is for the oil service and brake fluid change. I have followed the instructions. "put in the key, turn to position 1 while holding the trip button in for 5 secs. All that happens is I get a message test 1. I can keep hitting the trip button and it will go trip 2, trip 3, etc etc.
How do I get the reset prompt and why do I get this test message? I have tried just about every combination but always I get test........
Does anyone have the answer?

Hi Divito
Thanks for your answer but I have tried that and it doesnt work. As soon as I press the trip button and turn the key it will immediately show ....test .1.
I have tried every combination and it always goes to ....test 1.
I have also noticed that the one green light showing on the service indicator has been there for 2-3000 miles and I would have expected it to go to orange or red by now.
Help...............

Hi Divito
You were spot on mate. I had done everything that you suggested before but this time I just kept it pressed for longer, probably 10-15 seconds and it went to reset.
Thanks for your help. I dont have to keep looking at the stupid lights any more.....until the next service.
Nice photo of your 530.
I was reading this post, and seem to have the same problem. It will not appear reset, the last green light indicator is on, not yet orange or red. Will it NOT allow to reset if still in green?
