I've been looking at upgrading my 97 540i to an M5 body kit. The problem is,
1. I have chrome-line trim, so all the side trim has to be replaced (not too bad)
2. 540i single exhaust, M5 dual exhaust = me buying new exhaust system
3. BMW doesn't exactly know what they're doing when ordering parts for this (i didnt understand this either) and they want to charge $2300 in parts....not to mention, paint and labor and a new muffler.
So, has anyone done a body kit on their E39, anything would be helpful...
im pretty sure thats the normal price, ive looked into them also. I got someone to photoshop what the m5 kit would look like on my car and its sweet, but still your looking at quite a bit of money in the kit/labor/paint, let alone prolly a 700 dollar exhaust/
If you are going to change your exhaust to be similar to the M5 exhaust, check out the tubi exhaust. You can view videos and listen to sound clips on www.beastpower.com
The tubi exhaust is awesome but spendy.
Just my 2 cents.
Good luck
I have an ac schnitzer body kit on my car. I will try and attach some photos.
as far as the actual M5 kit goes, i think it is pretty expensive no matter where you look...
the muffler though, 310 bucks for dual exhaust on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=33630
got 4 days left to check it out
hope it'll help

I called on it at Pacific BMW, and they priced out everything new for me. Then I just found a guy that ripped it off a 540 sport and the sides from an M5. They are in perfect condition... I found them on ebay
oh yea, and bmw knew exactly what my goal was, they even priced out clips for the window trim. I haven't done the window trim yet btw, I am too scared to mess with the rain stripping LOL I mean, it doesn't leak now, if I rip it all out and put in new stripping I am scared it may.
