For the second modification (first being the K&N cone filter) on my car, a 523i m52b25, i did the intake resonator delete. Its easy and as cheap as you want it to be, at first i bought a standard plumbing pipe plug for i think 1 euro wich was a direct perfect fit. You just pull the resonator out of the intake tube, easy. But it didn't look very good !
So....
I've read that apperantly the E46 323i doesn't have the resonator. I went ahead and called the local BMW dealer to purchase the intake tube for a E46.
COST: about 12 euro
Part number: 13541705209
Looks clean and stock, btw i had a little coolant leak as you guys can see. radiator gave life at about 170000 KM .
I took some sound clips but they were rubbish but i can clearly hear a difference, thats the only reason why u'll be doing it i think.
If you don't mind me asking, are you chasing performance or do you just like the induction noise that a pod filter makes?
Unless the pod filter is shielded from the hot engine bay heat and fed fresh cool air via a CAI, replacing the entire factory airbox with just a pod filter will actually make it perform worse. Sure, it will sound great, but you will lose power and run a greater risk of overheating/heat soak in warmer weather.
Keeping the standard setup and replacing the element with an aftermarket one seems a better option unless you get a whole CAI done with partitioning.
Not having a go at you, just wondering as the engines bays in our cars get extremely hot and wouldnt wanna hear that your engine overheated.
wasn't looking for any performance gain as i stated at the end , just wanted to get a different sound. but the part of overheating the engine because of a pod filter/k&n filter is new to me.
