Hi - I'm new to the forum so be gentle.
I recently got a 2000 BMW 528i. The car was delivered to me on a flatbed tow truck and placed in the driveway.
When attempting to put the car in gear I noticed the shift link cable was out. Either the cable popped out when the car was in a spinout and it bumped the curb or the wrecker driver disconnected the linkage. Either way, I pushed the cable spine back into the rubber bushing. However, I think there is something missing to keep the linkage cable from coming out.
If you go to move the shift handle the cable just slides right back out of the assembly.
I was going by this parts schematic:
RealOEM.com BMW E39 528i SHIFT INTERLOCK AUTOMATIC TRANSM.
And did not see anything that I was missing.
I am going to attempt to attach a photo to my posting that should show what I'm talking about.
I'm not sure how to post the picture in the body of my message so I attached it.
Thanks,
Andrew
