E39 fuel injectors--replacement

We're replacing the fuel injector in a 2000 528i today. Questions:

1. Which cylinder is number 5?

2. Do I have to worry about repressurizing the system? I assume all the gas in the fuel rail is gone...Does the fuel pump just do it on starting?

3. Any special tips?



1999 E39 540i/6-VF Stage 1 S/C, Dinan exhaust, Dinan strut+shock braces, Dinan ltwt flywheel + clutch, Dinan Brembo BBK, Dinan monoball, H&R Springs, Koni Yellows, M5 sways, Dinan forged 18" wheels, &c.

I could be wrong - but I'm 80% sure that cyl 5 is the second one from th efirewall...

also - there is gonna be pressure in the rail, thats just how it is. It's a big mess.

I cant resist...its the one next to cylinder number 4...

My M20 is the second one from the firewall.
I would think the fuel pump would do it the first time you turn the key on. It might tick a time or two more the first time. Just a guess though, havent had to do that yet.

We wound up replacing the coil and it did the trick.
