E39 Diesel - Air Filter?

Evening all,
New forum user here & new BMW owner also. I purchased a '96 525 TDS SE on Friday and this is my first BMW and diesel car. I do the servicing myself (novice) on the car and can only buy a Haynes manual for a petrol version (as they don't do the diesel version) which I have bought anyway, hopefully to help on the issues which are the same on both fuel type cars, however I have a couple of quick questions, hopefully another forum member can help me on:

Where is the air filter? Is there one? I have spotted two pollen filters (top left and top right of engine bay) Sections 2 & 3 of this diagram:

Do these do the job instead? I've looked through the BMW service history types I & II and cannot find anything about air filters for both diesel or petrol models do the Germans word it differently?

Not easy to get to tho, I spotted some screws holding it down, and they make the pollen filters so easy to get to as well...
