I have a 2002 525i, and when I purchased the vehicle it did not come with a owners manual with the vehicle, and I dont want to spend the $ on a new owners manual. So my question is, when you start up the vehicle, what is the lights on the bottom left corner? Its like green/yellow/red and I used to have a maybe like 3 green bars lit, then 2, and now 1. The next color it will go to is the yellow and I'm having a hard time trying to find the meaning of the lights. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
They are your service indicator lights: when serviced they are reset to 5 or 4 green, they go out one by one as you drive, then amber (no greens) then RED!!! get me serviced please. You may also get either INSPECTION SERVICE or OIL SERVICE appear aswell. Basically a set of traffic lights to let you know when and what service is required.

The lights have to be reset via software, by the dealer or if you diy you can purchase the appropiate tool to reset the lights ( e-bay ) for around $20, or you can purchase an interface, leads and software ( carsoft 6.5) and use with a laptop, This is what I have and its invaluable when owning a BMW.
