Might aswell start to explain this from the start.
This past Friday I took my '96 528ia downtown it was a bit iffy to start, noticed lateron that I had to replace the battery (which I have done), got out after an hour and the car wouldn`t start tried to jump start it and the car still wouldn`t start everything worked fine but when turning the key the starter didn`t even turn so i arranged to have it towed home, after I had done some research on the net the main suggestion was to try a spare key (luckily I have 3 keys) aparently the transponder in the key had broken it still works fine on the remote locking. So the spare key works fine just have to reinitialise it for the remote locking.
When I was trying to get the car working I noticed that the brakelights were on contantly when the ignition is on. I have tried to remove the connetion to the brakelight switch that did not turn em off. Is the brakelight switch contructed to cut the current to "send" a signal to the LCM? if not it will most likely be an LCM problem "sigh"
It is either the switch or the LCM as far as I can understand or is there some relay that could have gone tits up aswell?
I have no idea when this fault first occured as I rarely step behind the car when it is running and I havn`t been driving in the dark the last week or so.
Update on the issue I recived my new and shiny brakelight"switch" today installed it and I still have the same problem with constant brakelights on, any ideas?
