E39 Aux Fan

On an E39 at idle is the electric fan suppost to turn on, if the engine begins to overheat, or is it only related to the A/C?

The Aux fan has two modes.

1. Always on with AC selected.

2. Turns on based on the temperature switch (values/) that screws into side of radiator. Some have two temperature settings (highand low) and others one.

So...is that a yes or no. Should the electric fan come on at any temp, with the a/c off?

Ok, mine is not turning on at all any ideas?

Check the fuse (number 25 I think) in the forward fuse box. Mine went recently. It uses a 30A fuse. If the fuse is OK then check the Aux Fuse Box (I think it is called). It is infront of the left strut. It contains the high speed and normal speed relays.
