E39 auto gearbox problem

My 1998 E39 523i gear selector will not move from the Park position.
As a result, I cannot have it towed to the nearest garage.

I've tried rocking the car whilst trying to move the selector, hoping that this will release it - but no joy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your interest.
My mechanic was able to move the selector by lifting the gaiter and adjusting something!

Sorry for others reading this thread that I can't say what that something was!
