I have just purchased a 1998 540i at the weekend, which seemed to be in very good nick for the money. I havent picked it up yet cus its having an MOT done, and a valet.
However I have one small concern, and I have taken a bit of a gamble with the purchase on it, because everything else seemed so good (especially the throaty roar).
I noticed when accelerating at low revs, upto about 2500rpm there was a slight shuddering throught the car. It felt as if the engine was missing a mounting or something. Upon reaching higher revs, it stopped completely.
Can somebody give advise on what it could be and what might be the fix. I hope its nothing major, jike a new auto gearbox. Fingers crossed, we all take a bit of a leap of faith with buying second hand cars, hopefully mine has been sound.
I will have a look. I pick the car up next weekend, and I`ve opted to get an inspection service with a local bmw specialist just for peace of mind and a general check while the car is in warranty. I will pass on your suggestions as key areas to check.
I`ll keep my fingers crossed it isnt the auto box. ££££££
Nice looking ride you have there, risky on the exit from your drive, in scraping your front splitter/bumper. A few arse pursing moments im sure on that one.
