I drove some people around in a 528 2000 model (mine 540 1997). First think I noticed was that the remote opens the driver door seperatly from passanger doors (press button twice to open all doors) When driving off it also locks the doors automatically.
Question is can I buy a alarm controller from the newer models and replace mine? I took my car to the dealer and they say that mine doesn't have those functions build in.
These are features of car/key memory. Your car most likely has car memory but not key memory. Both of the features you want are key memory features. You may be able to retrofit a general module from a later car but it would require some advanced encoding and possibly a change of your ZCS central coding key. This is pretty advanced to and most dealers will not attempt it. Also, once you get in to it you may find that other modules may need to be replaced as well such as possibly the instrument cluster. I have never attempted this but Im sure at some point someone has. Search around and see if you can find someone who has attempted this and maybe they can tell you if it is possible and worth trying.
Thank you for the reply and info I will search around aswell as I realy like these features. Yes the key also looked different had the bmw logo on mine is just a plain one so I would presume that the key module would be different.
