E39 528i Sunroof Issues!!!!

Ok so I own a 1998 528i, I've had it for about 2yrs now and really enjoy the car. Just recently though I've had problems with the sunroof. When I attempt to either open or retract it, it makes a repetitive loud "clicking" noise. The sunroof will end up opening after a few seconds but will always make this noise. If any of you have had this similar problem your info. would be greatly appreciated. I realize I could take it to the dealer but that would probably run me $500+. I'm an engineer and like to do my own maintenance/repairs anyway.

I had similar problem like that with my 528i and I fixed it myself after just a little bit of messing with it. I can't exactly remember what exactly fixed it sorry...

I just had my 98's sun roof fixed at Dinan. It would retract but not lift. It took 4 hours plus $85.00+ for new rails. Apparently repairs can be costly ($2K) if the motor is bad as well. Good Luck!
