I'm new to this site but have just picked up a 528i Sport with the full M-Tech kit on a V-plate '99 reg (see attached).
I wanted to remove the 528i badge off the tailgate and replace it with a "M" badge like the one's on the M3 and M5 but wondered whether there will be an imprint of the 528i on the paintwork after I take the badge off?? Has anyone else tried this and if so how did the paintwork look after you de-badged it?
I got a badge off the back of my previous car by holding a ladys hand-hairstyling blower and aiming some heat towards the sticky inside part of the badge, and carefully prized it off with a plastic knife.
Be careful on this job......and accept the fact a small paint job may be required later if its a tuff one to get off.
However, plastic knife doesn't sound like a good idea, go to the store and get goof-off adhesive remover. It would be at a hardware type store like Osh Hardware. I just got some of that stuff for debadging my friends VW and it worked like a dream. To get the bigger parts off, use ur thumb to push it off, not knife, please don't ruin that beautiful car.
not to sound like a prick or anything but, why would you put an M badge on an M-less car? dont get me wrong i have the same car and love it but still its kinda pointless..

True that! Its just like, wow, you have the badge, but your car is still same speed. Badge won't speed it up (like ricers think)
Like he said, not trying to be mean
PS you may also get crap about having a fake ///M5
yeah man think about it what if a 328 or a 330 pulls up next to you? lol it will dust you then dude will be goin around saying he beat an M ( we cant have that) or even worse what if this person gets a glimpse of your exhuast as they drive by you? they would laugh and laugh hard.. leave the M badges to the M cars man... be proud of the bimmer you got and thats that, nothin to be ashamed of..

Ahy quality dobbers.............by now you'll probably have the badge off......yes i've trashed the plastic knife (My car was silver !!!).......the dental floss was a great idea.....never tried that before...........HOPEFULLY one day we all own a M5 V10 !!!
In reply to CBS and powerm, i'm not trying to make the car look like an M5, but it is badged up (asstandard by BMW I would add) as an M-Sport (e.g. M-Logos on door panes, M Logo on steering wheel, M Logo on Small M Log Alloy Wheels, etc...) so all I wanted to do was add another M-Sport badge onto the rear because I think the 528i badge looks huge and crap. The badge I wanted to put on only displays the "M" logo, it doesn't say "M5", would I still look such a huge prick if I added one more "m" badge to the car??? Anyone else have any comments to make on this or should I just trash the idea?
