I have been looking for 3 weeks trying to unlock the front passenger door. on my 97 528i here is a list things i tried
- pull handle 2x
- pull handle 50x in a role
- use remote open/close many times
- turm key pass 90degrees
- hold outside door handle up and press remote open/close at the same time
- bump inside door by tweeter
- remove the air bag and move cable and wires
- I have some access to the actuator but cant see any problems/loos cable and or wires. (yes i did diconnected the batt.for this)
- I have Not broken off the actuator at this time..
Im will try to put 12v dc power directly to actuator wires just need to know wich wire and need a 12v dc power source (spare batt or charger) this weeken
My Wife Hate climming over the drive seat and made a F N rip in the seat today.
any other ideas.....
un-employed at this time so no Steelership for me on this problem,,,,
The actuator itself has micro switches in it which fail over time causing the door not to work. Start by checking all your fuses, as it's possible that a fuse tied into the central locking mechanism is blown. A door actuator is about $75-80.
I took off the actuator yesterday but still cant open the passenger door.
There has to be some way or some thing that can trigger the release of the lock...
I've done it before with cars in the junk yard. Theirs a rod that connects the handle to the latch. You should be able to push up on the rod and it will pop it open.
After 2hr and 4 weekens I finaly got the Passenger door open. (pulling on the rod did not work on my 97 528i). I was able to push on the pins that connect to the actuator (i removed the actuator first) with a long flat head srw/driver. and it pop open. I took off the door panal, un-bolted the door lacth and cleaned the door lock mechanizm with wd-40 and re/lub all of the door lack mechanizm. I replace the same actuator on the door lacth mechanizm tested it many times before re-installing it, and so far so good. I would like to Thank Lord Vader for his advices and keeping me on track on this endevour..
Maybe I should have made my username Detective Vader instead?
When I wanted to learn how something worked on my car but didn't want to risk damaging it I just went to the local scrap yard. That's how I learned how the door locks and the hood latches work. It's the best way to get hands on learning without risk to your car.

My Wife's 2003 525 has locked the drivers door, won't open via any method. i have gone in through the airbag panel, removed the airbag and pryed off the actuator.
But now i am stuck and can't get the door latch to release. there is a plate with a hook in it that i can tilt forward, but it does nothing.
