E39 528i lifter tick - BMW Forum

Hi All. I have a 99 528i and the lifters tick terribly when it is first started. It is full of BMW 5-30 synthetic. Any tricks or do they have to be replaced?

then scroll down to "noisy tappets on v8"... I have personally had luck using a can of Sea Foam to quiet down a lifter tap.

in this picture,which is the lifter?(if is there...)

The whole deal is the lifter just broken down. I'm pretty sure the cap at the top far right of diagram is where the tapping occurs. Fluid does not get in there properly. Old Volvo I had used a small o'ring shaped rubber gasket to help fill this space and lessen the impact a bit. For a better explaination get in contact w/Marti5. Dude knows his grit...
