Does anyone know how to wire a resistor to the glow plug relay of a 5 series 1997 525 tds. It has the infamous hot starting problem, i bought a resistor of ebay to fool the ecu and kick start glow plugs and the fuel lift pump even when the engine is hot, i got confronted by a string of wires and two ecu`s when i opened the ECU compartment. can anybody help? or is there any other trusted way of curing the hot start problem, whereby if the engine is warm cranking is required to start the car?
On my e34 tds I have read that a live can be connected to the original pump live so the pump can be run by flicking a switch on a hot engine, but this will also cycle the glow plugs as well whilst the pump has power.
thanks for replying. i bought the resistor from the same guys on ebay who sell it claiming it works on bmw`s however the pictures they have of bmw ae very small and have not much details, as you know the bmw ecu is notorius for plenty wiring. i contacted them back and gave them pictures of my ecu plug , but they could point me to the right wire, i need an earth wire, glow plug relay heater wire and tempreture sender wire to connect the device i bought off that site *Diesel Hot Starting Fault P38* -
