Hi every one i have a 528i touring 98/R when in fully auto and driven hard some times the gearbox wont change up untill 6500 rpm and wont change down unless i ease right off the throttle but it works fine in steptronic mode (going through the gears manualy ) this started when my wife went through a flooded road any ideas whats wrong

It could be several things,your best bet is to get a diagnostic undertaken, if your anywhere near Ipswich I have the gear to do it for a small charge, this will then let you know, as It could be the speed control sensor in the box or most likely the valve control body which is a serviceable part although it means removal of the control body and sending it away to Germany or a drive to Germany and they do it there, I had mine done, it takes approx 3hrs to do and around €370.00 which includes rebuild, filter, gasket and fluid, take a look at what they do, this is not me but I emailed this chap and took his advice and had it done and the result is all my changes are silk smooth and at the correct time:
Oh, you dont have to leave the car overnight, I arrived an hour before they opened to let it cool down on a Saturday morning, it went In at 8.00am and they were done and test driven by 11.00am, If you do go its cheaper in the week, something like €290.00. and you are allowed to watch if you wish.
