block head is on a distinguished road
Question e39 2003 520d auxliary heater

I would like to know how the auxiliary heater can be operated. It is located behind front left hand wheel arch,supplied with desiel from fuel tank and coolant hoses connected to it ,with exhaust exiting on under side of car on left hand side.

As far as I know, the heater comes on for the first few minutes, automatically, when the outdoor temperature is low, and the cabin heat settings are normal or high. I am trying to disable mine, as I find the heater ruins economy on short trips, and is not needed on long trips.
