Bentley Service Manual. Buy it. Valve cover gaskets are easy. And it's next to a no brainer if you have the service manual.
The service manual DOES skip a step with valve cover gaskets. You're going to want to put some silicone down around the gasket to ensure a good seal. The service manual fails to mention this but it's common mechanic knowledge, so I guess they just assume.

Sorry for the confusion, the Valve Cover Gasket replacement is what I am trying to do.
Thanks!
Make sure you get 22 new rubber grommets that go under the nuts that bolt the valve covers onto the head or your new gasket will leak. The grommets are what set the tension/pressure on the gasket and if you use the old grommets on a new gasket there won't be enough pressure on the gasket and it will leak. I've seen cars come in from different shops that were not familiar with BMW's do this and a customer complaining about their oil leak not going away with new gaskets.
